At Pause & Pivot Farm, animals are workers, colleagues, and companions. Each one is treated with care and gratitude for their role in our success. Chickens, goats, and dogs each have a different role on the farm.

We invite you to visit with the animals when you stop by, but please be cautious as you traverse the farm.

  • Chickens

Our chickens are primarily on the farm to produce free range eggs. These are for sale in the barn shop when we have them. Additionally, they turn over gardens in the spring, keep ticks at bay, and fertilize the fieds around the farm.

We feed our chickens a blend of layer feed and seeds (like flax and black oil sunflower), and occasional fresh produce cast-offs. This results in beautiful nutrient-dense eggs with bright yellow-orange yolks.

  • Goats

Our goats are both workers and companions. In the sprlng, summer, and fall, they clear invasive plants and brush around the farm, and provide entertainment for visitors. In the winter, they process used Christmas trees and our greens farm cast-offs. This reduces the amount of waste produced on the farm, turning it into droppings which we then compost and use as rich fertilizer in our flower gardens.

  • Dogs

Livestock guardian dog, Rocky oversees the back barn where our female goats live. He lounges during the day, monitoring the forest and fields for predators. At night he is actively barking off threats like coyotes, the occasional black bear and bobcat, foxes, and even raccoons. Most of these animals are a bigger risk to the chickens, but his presence on the farm has kept preadtion down since he joined us in 2021. Rocky lives with the goats as part of the herd.

We also enjoy companionship from our farm dogs who are both rescues from Texas.

Animals are such agreeable friends - they ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.
