Miana Hoyt Dawson, Co-Owner
Miana is one of the founders of Pause & Pivot. Since she was 8 years old standing at the end of her best friend’s driveway selling rocks they found on the mountain behind their houses, she’s been fascinated by what inspires people to see value in certain products or experiences. At the farm, she helps build and run the business using a combination of curiosity, a deep well of creativity, a passion for feeding people, and an affection for animals. Paired with 15 years experience leading and managing marketing teams in a 200 person company, then a 7000 person company, her DNA and experience is perfectly suited to the skills needed to own and operate a small business.
From growing greens to baking to caring for chickens to hosting meaningful events, Miana loves the variety, challenge and deep satisfaction of all that the team offers at Pause & Pivot Farm.
In her free time Miana enjoys gardening (yes, really), cooking, traveling, and spending time with her three children and husband at the farm or somewhere in the mountains.

Terry Dawson, Co-owner, Woodworker
Terry brings the precision of an engineering background and the creativity of his wild imagination to the work he does at the farm. He saves the day when an engineering or maintenance task is required at the farm and spends his days developing creative solutions for clients and crafting using salvaged and native wood.
Terry’s love for the natural world (the world of wood and trees!) developed when he spent countless hours wandering from fishing hole to fishing hole as a child growing up in rural Texas. As he has moved and explored various parts of the US, he remains fascinated with the flora and fauna in each area where he’s spent significant time: the south, the pacific northwest and New England. Each of these regions influence his creative aesthetic and designs.
In his free time, Terry enjoys playing and watching basketball, golfing with his oldest son, spending time with his favorite dog Nick, fresh water fishing, and relaxing in the beautiful place he calls home.

Katie See
At Pause & Pivot, Katie is queen of microgreens and an integral member of the Farm Kitchen and event team. Katie uses her previous experiences as a home-based cottage baker and long-standing member of the restaurant industry to complement her passion for food, finding interesting flavor combinations and bringing people joy through unique, curated events at the farm.
Having graduated from Hampshire College, Katie understands the importance and impact of community building through connection. She aspires to bring this to her work at Pause & Pivot—almost as much as she aspires to live in the moment more, letting herself enjoy what's in front of her at the present instead of worrying about what needs to be done next.
Katie is mom to a spirited, sensory-seeking tiny human who wants to wear "pretty dresses" every day and has most recently requested a pet worm and wife to a sci-fi/fantasy nerd who keeps Katie laughing with his quick wit.

Rocky
Born to a Great Pyrenees (mom) and Anatolian Shepherd (dad) on a farm where they raise sheep, Rocky has been living the life of a true Livestock Guardian since he was a puppy.
Rocky has lived and worked on the farm since 2021 and is often referred to as “the overnight shift” due to his adeptness at protecting the small herd of goats and large flock of hens from predation. Throughout the day and especially at night, he works the perimeter of the farm and forest watching for and announcing threats.
Notably since joining the farm, Rocky has ensured that we have very few predator-driven losses to our flock of laying hens. Prior to his arrival, we experienced losses from various types of predators such as foxes, hawks, bobcats, raccoons and even an opportunistic opossum. We’re grateful for the work Rocky puts in to ensure we have healthy and safe hens producing fresh local eggs.
While he’s a protector of the farm, there is nothing he loves more than a big hug from his people. He is a kind and diligent protector of the animals at Pause & Pivot Farm and an enthusiastic welcome committee to human visitors to the farm.
